You can’t record to an external drive from an iPhone.

Apple only advertises this function on the pro and pro max. Since the regular 15’s USB C port only works at USB 2 speeds I wouldn’t think they’d ever activate this feature.

Check out the Black Magic camera app. You can indeed record 1080 directly to an ssd.

Hello! While you can’t record directly to an external hard drive, you can save your video to Files and then transfer it to your external hard drive
In camera settings on a 15 promax. It shows you can record video to an SSD from the camera. In settings for camera
