I have an Ipad 2 mini running 12.5.7. The problem is I can not log in with my apple id unless i update the software, but the ipad will not support the latest software anyway. What can I do to log in my ipad? My ipad is not even on my device list anymore. This is just one big headache

It may also be an Account Recovery contact that is set up on your Apple ID. This can only be used on devices that are using iOS 15 or later. Removing the Account Recovery contact should let you sign in.
Thankyou so much. I have now managed to login. I did have 1 account recovery contact. I deleted that and now I have been able yo sign in. I have spent days pulling my hair out trying to sort this. It would have been helpful if this possibility was mentioned in the pop up as that pop up told you nothing.
