How do I view iCloud photos on my PC, they all time out.

I have iCloud on my PC and it's worked fine for several years with my iPhone. Today, I can't view any photos on my PC, they all time out before downloading with "unexpected" error. Even photos I took months ago. I took photos this morning. On my PC in the iCloud photos, I can see graphics for the thumbnails but they are blank. (no mini photo image). The img file name matches those on-line in iCloud. I can view them in iCloud on-line and the thumbnails on-line are correct also. If I right click and look at properties on my PC, it shows the file name, size, etc.. is all correct and matches iCloud on-line. If I double click to view the image, I get a download window showing 0% downloaded, Time remaining is calculating... after a few minutes it blows up saying an unexpected error has occurred and iCloud operation was no completed and it timed out before it could download the photo. Window says Availability status is Available when on-line but it doesn't work. It says if I continue to get this error, use this code for help 0x800701AA Cloud operation was not completed before time-out period expired. Please help me regain access to photos on my PC! I made sure iCloud photos on my PC is set to synch, I'm logged inti iCloud on-line. What else could be wrong? I haven't changed ANY settings.

I was having this problem until very recently. Apple just released (February 2024) a new version of iCloud for Windows, v 15.0.214. Even if you have re-installed iCloud before, try again. The new UI when you log in and do settings is noticeably different, and on my system it is actually now downloading and managing photos.

Reboot your pc.

Well, today at 3:30 I could click on a photo and it'd download it, but all thumbnails were still blank. Around 5pm, the thumbnails started to fill in and by 5:40 all my photos have thumbnails and can be downloaded.

I didn't change anything, I rebooted 4 times and then waited 30 hours for it to synch.

iCloud could be a great product I think if it was stable and wasn't so buggy. I struggle with this iCloud issue a few times each year and it's so frustrating. For no reason, I can't download photos, view thumbnails, etc... one day and I have to log off and back into iCloud, click photos off then back on, reboot 2-4 times, download from iCloud to zip files until it works and synchs, then it takes days to actually synch.

Like I said, iCloud has the potential to be a great product if Apple can figure out how to make it stable and reliable. I've learned you can't rely on iCloud, it's just not stable enough yet.

I came in this morning hoping it would synch overnight but I still have the exact same issue. I rebooted 3 times to no avail. When I go to my iCloud folder it shows blank thumbnails and if I try to view the photos it times out trying to download them. The image file names match those in my iCloud on-line so iCloud on-line is linked to my iCloud folder as it's creating the stubs for the thumbnails but then it doesn't seem to synch to the point the thumbnails are viewable or to the point I can download anything. I can download from iCloud to my download folder, but iCloud won't synch anymore. I'm logged in on both on-line and on my PC. Please help as I use these photos to post to social media and I need access to these photos for my job and hobby.
