How to email photos and pictures as an attachment, not embedded.

Quick Guide, lots of details not listed...

  1. In the Files app, create a folder On My Phone called “Photos Email” or some such.
  2. Open the Photos app, select the photos you want to email and save/send them to the “Photos Email” folder.
  3. In “Photos Email” folder, convert the photos to JPEG or PNG, then choose a size.
  4. Open the Gmail app (yes you must do this in the app), attach and send the files from the "Photos Email" folder.
  5. Clean up the "Photos Email" folder.

Complete Instructions


SETUP:

1. get a Gmail account and download the Gmail app to your iPhone.

2. open the Files app and if needed, touch Browse at the top left.

3. under Locations, touch On My Phone.

4. in the upper right, touch the ellipses (three dots with a circle).

5. touch New Folder.

6. name the folder “Photos Email” or some such.


TRANSFER PHOTOS to the Photos Email folder:

  1. open the Photos app.

2. at the top right touch Select.

3. select the photos you want to email.

4. at the bottom left, touch the Send To icon (the square with an arrow pointing up).

5. scroll up and touch Save to Files.

6. the window that opens will open to your last used folder, you may need to navigate to your “Photos Email” folder, you can touch the down arrow or use the Back if needed to find the right folder.

7. when you are in the desired folder, touch Save.


CONVERT PHOTOS to a usable file type for MS Windows:

1. Open the Files app.

2. Browse to the Photos Email folder if needed.

3. In the upper right, touch the ellipses, then touch Select.

4. Touch the icons for the files you want to convert/email.

5. At the bottom right, touch the three dots in a circle, then touch Convert Image.

6. Select JPEG or PNG if you need to use the files in a Windows, etc.

7. Select the size of the image you want to convert to (small, medium, large, original).

8. You can then delete or keep the original HEIF files (you may need to look at the date/time/file size to decide which ones to keep/delete).


EMAIL:

1. Open the Gmail app.

2. Start a new email and do the normal stuff to compose your email.

3. At the top right touch the paperclip (attach file) icon.

4. At the bottom, scroll up until you can see Attachments; touch the folder icon.

5. Your most recently created files should be at the top, if not you can scroll.

6. Select the photos you want to attach, then touch Open at the top right.

7. Wait for the files to upload to the email server.

8. At the top right, touch the Send (arrow) icon.


Problem solved.


To keep your Photos Email folder cleaned up, go delete the files from the Files app.
