Unable to import songs from CD to music app on MacBook Pro says An "unknown error occurred (-54)"

I have a new Mac Air Pro. I have transferred all my old iTunes library to the new Music app Ok but cannot add new music from CD's via either of my external disk drives. All I get is the error message "error occurred while converting the file [xxx]. An unknown error occurred (-54)"

I finally figured out why I was getting a (-54) error when attempting to rip cds into my Mac:

The path to my “music” folder was too deep. I moved the “music” folder into the “USERS/SHARED” folder (and set that path in the music setup) and I was again able to rip my cds.

You say "load an album form a CD". I assumed you wanted to get the tracks from the CD into your Music library so that you can, as you say, "use Music across all my devices". So, until/unless you get the problem you first described resolved, all you can do is work around. Ripping your CDs using XLD or other 3rd party apps then adding them to your Music library will then have you using your music from those CDs across all your devices.
