gMail helps, but I see no way other than deleting the whole eMail, which google doesn't do, but Mail moved the attachment to the trash. :(
Thanks BD Aqua for answering.
I'm not sure what you are getting at here. When Gmail deletes an email, it moves it to its own trash. From there, emails are automatically deleted after some time that you set, I think usually 30 days.
The problem I am having is that attachments take up all the space. So, if I could somehow remove the attachments, then that would be super-good. As far as I can tell, however, Messages>Remove Attachments just deletes the attachment from my local disk, and has no effect whatsoever on the actual email stored on Google's server.
The "next best" thing, forwarding the email to myself without an attachment, then deleting the original email, is a really poor option - not only do I lose the sender for search purposes, I lose the date. So it would be almost impossible to find such an email later unless you precisely remembered the subject line or text from it.
So, there might be a complicated way, but not sure if google counts it'shidden "deleted" emails against your account or not.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'hidden "deleted"' in quotes or hidden. On the Google side, it's actually pretty clear what's going on. The problem is how Apple's interface seems to promise to remove attachments, but doesn't remove them from the server. Either something is not working right or Apple should change the menu to read "Remove Attachments Locally" or "Remove Attachments AppleCloud" or something like that.
