Deleting old VIP email addresses without an email from the VIP

how can one get rid of the VIP designation on an address that I no longer have any emails from?

I actually solved this myself when I couldn't find an answer so I wanted to post it here:


Begin to compose a message to the VIP address you no longer want as a VIP, then from the dropdown menu next to their name in the subject line, choose "remove from VIP". Their address should disappear from your VIP mailbox, then just close the email without sending or saving.


Easy peasy.
