Have you checked the Mute switch on the left side of the phone near the top, above the volume buttons? And also adjusted the volume with those buttons?
If it is only text messages that aren’t alerting, and you are wearing an Watch then texts alert on the watch instead of the iPhone. But phone calls should still ring on both.
