Merlin bird app and microphone access for birdsong IDs

I have repeatedly reinstalled the Merlin bird ID app on my iPhone 11 to try and fix the problem of Merlin's inability to request access to my microphone. I have read earlier posts about this issue and tried the suggested fixes. Nothing works. The microphone is essential to IDing bird song.

Apple Support have an article that may help:

How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

At Merlin website: see: Smartphone recording tips

https://support.ebird.org/en/support/solutions/articles/48001064305-smartphone-recording-tips

Eg: says:

Use Merlin Sound ID or another recording app that makes .WAVs

To make the most out of your smartphone recordings, you’ll need to download a recording app that allows you to record in .WAV format. Merlin Bird ID from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology records in .WAV format, and recordings you make with Merlin can be shared via email, messaging, or the cloud, making it easy to transfer your recordings for later processing and archiving.

Other recording apps that allow you to record in .WAV format include Voice Record Pro for iOS, and RecForge II and Hi-Res Audio Recorder for Android, among many others.
