iMac Music Capabilities

How well does Logic run on a maxed-out (configuration) iMac “All-In-One” computer. I’m thinking the M3 processor 24GB unified memory, 2TB of SSD, Gigabit Ethernet, Magic Trackpad, Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, Logic Pro. My goal is orchestral music, and my main concern is whether this configuration can handle a large number of instruments playing separate parts simultaneously. How many tracks is the practical maximum, using both MIDI and internal instruments? I know. That’s a lot. Sorry. I’m just trying to decide if the money I’m willing to spend will support my goals, or lead to a huge disappointment. Thanks in advance!

The iMac would work fine. You might find 24Gb limiting when you have a lot of instruments and effects going. Many complex projects can have up to 100 tracks. I've watched some videos on Youtube with the mac mini showing it can do the job. You should stay away from 2TB HD. It's a horrendous amount of money ($800). At the most, get 512GB HD and add a 2TB SSD ext drive for about 100 bucks. Also, the 24" screen is beautiful, but it will get crowded with all the tracks and plug-in windows. So plan on buying another monitor before long. And you definitely want 4 ports on the back so you can add your keyboard, audio interface and 2nd monitor.

An iMac with 24GB, 512GB HD is around $2,100. You might consider a mac mini pro with 512GB and 32GB men for $1,700. And buy a keyboard, mouse and a nice 27" or 32" monitor for under $500

Oh, and check out Apples Refurbished. They often have great deals and they come with a 1 year warranty like a new one.
