iphone in security lockout

my iphone says "Iphone unavailable" try again in 15 minutes. I've tried three times... it says the "phone is security lockout." And is recommending to completely reset the phone. I have no idea why this happened. I've never seen this message before. ideas?

It happened because the Lock Screen passcode was entered incorrectly too many times.

It happens when the passcode is entered incorrectly too many times. If your screen is cracked, it could have been caused by "ghost" touches, or another person may have had physical access to your phone and attempted to unlock it.


There are 2 Support articles that can be used to reset your Passcode. It will erase your iPhone.

If you forgot your iPhone passcode, use your Mac or PC to reset it - Apple Support (KG)

If you see an iPhone or iPad unavailable message or Security Lockout screen - Apple Support
