Unable to enter recovery mode on iMac

I have an old 2008 desktop Mac I want to erase before getting rid of it. I’m using a wired windows keyboard. I’ve tried everything and cannot enter recovery mode to erase.

i’m trying the windows button, ALT, +R?

any ideas?

iMac 8 1 not going into recovery mode so my friend got a I Mac 8 1 from a garage sale and the person that owned the Imac never logged out. so I just try booting into recovery mode... it never does no matter the which command I use on my keyboard just doesn't load into recovery and don't tell me to change keyboards because I already use 3. but when I shut down and start the PC while holding the n key it shows a globe flashing then just boots to the desk top. and the thing is the PC is running Mac os x 1.5.8 which I want to update but I literally cant do anything or get any new software because the browsers are so old.

Problem accessing recovery mode on 2013 iMac in order to erase disk. I am trying to erase the disk on my 2013 iMac. However, I do not have an Apple keyboard and pressing Command plus R during startup does not open Recovery Mode. It justs boots up normally. If I go to Disk Utility, the ERASE command is greyed out. Is there an alternate way to erase my disk?

Can't use recovery on iMac I have a 2011 late iMac, it is running Monterey OS 12.6.1, I have tried in vane to boot in recovery mode to clean the iMac for sale. i have done the following per instruction from this support community: press the power button Immediately simultaneously hold down the command + r prior to the Bong When the apple icon appears i let the command + r go the computer boots as if I have done nothing.... What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance for your help Michael

All desktop Macs, prior to 2010, did not come with a Recovery Partition on their respective system drives. That is why Recovery Mode is not working with this Mac. Instead, you would need to use the original Installation discs that came with this Mac to restore it to its "out-of-the-box" configuration.
