2nd loop watchband broke in 3 1/2 months....

The first watchband broke after 6 months...snapped in two. I didn't seek a replacement, I bought another. But it broke in two pieces after 3 1/2 months. I sought a replacement because of the one year warranty. The reply I've gotten is that the band probably was nicked and I was taking it on and off a lot, and it broke because of normal wear and tear. Apple is refusing to replace or refund. Why is there a one year warranty if it doesn't hold up with very little wear and tear, basically putting it on in the morning and taking it off late afternoon. I'm not working construction. I'm retired.

The Apple's one-year warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not wear & tear. Regardless, an Apple Technician needs to examine the product to concur that it is a defect. It appears that you had it evaluated by an Apple employee who determined it was not a defect.

At this point, you have a number of options:

  • Speak with the Apple Store's manager. See if they can help resolve this issue for you.
  • Look at getting a different watch band, either from Apple or another third-party source.

Sorry, but we are not Apple employees here. As such, there is little we can do to directly assist you with this matter. FWIW, I prefer the Sport Loop over the Solo Loop for durability.

This warranty excludes normal depletion of consumable parts such as batteries unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship and, damage resulting from abuse, accident, modifications, unauthorized repairs or other causes that are not defects in materials and workmanship.

Not sure a watch band would be considered a "consumable part." Regardless, you may have a valid claim and your band should be examined to verify that this is, or is not, a manufacturing defect. Good luck!
