2022 M2 Laptop Overheating
Hi, I use my laptop on average 8 hours a day.....lately it's overheating and needs charging frequently....I want to say esp since the last update to Sonoma 14.2.1. Can anyone provide any ideas why?

You are a couple of updates behind on Sonoma updates as it is now at 14.3.1.
If you continue to have issues run EtreCheck and post the report here so we can examine it for clues.
Usual culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software. None of these types of apps are needed on a Mac, so if you are using them, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions. These types of apps usually causes more problems than they solve since they interfere with the normal operation of macOS.
Disconnect all external devices from the laptop in case one of them is causing a problem.
