1. Update Libre Office for MacBook Air M2 (Sonoma 14.2.1) - 2. Libre Office Writer previous window takes focus

Versions used: MacBook Air M2 (Sonoma 14.2.1), LibreOffice (7.5.5.2/AARCH64.

  1. I have been looking for a way of updating LO on my MBA but am getting nowhere. Can anyone give me the steps to follow please?

  1. This is in order to fix (hopefully) the fault which has arisen recently: when I click on another document in LO/Windows (top bar), it opens it but when I try to type in it, it jumps to the previous document. I haven’t found a way to fix this so am hoping it will get fixed if I manage to update LO.

I have contacted the LO forum who suggested I contact the Apple forum.

I would think that if there is a new version of LibreOffice, you could just download the installer for that version, and run it to overwrite the old version. Is that not the case?

The LibreOffice download page currently features two versions:

  • 24.2.0 (early adopter)
  • 7.6.4 (slightly older, tested for longer)

I have no idea whether either addresses the specific issue you have been seeing.

The huge jump from 7.6.* to 24.2.0 apparently is due to a shift to calendar-based version numbering. The 24.2 tells you that you are looking at a version that came out in February of 2024. (There might be more 7.6.* versions before the developers switch over completely to calendar-based numbering.)
