Unable access Internet through WiFi on MacBook after recent macOS Sonoma update.

I recently upgraded to Sonoma, 14.3.1. Previous to this update my Wi-Fi was working without any issues. After updating my computer does not have access access to Internet despite being connected to Wi-Fi other devices are able to connect to the same Wi-Fi without any issues so it’s not a router issue. I have checked network settings, and there are none; I am not connected to VPN either.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Allright, I have done some research on this problem as Apple has not provided an actual fix. This problem seems to affect quite a number of people but no update has fixed it as of yet. Here are some potential fixes to try, on my Mac Pro I got around this problem by setting Wi-Fi over Ethernet in Network Settings -> Set Service Order, as I found that only the Ethernet connection cuts off. Now my connection isn't as stable as with Ethernet as the priority, but at least it works all the time.

In Network Settings, you can right click your Wi-Fi or Ethernet and click Delete Service, then Add Service by clicking the three dots below, and add the Wi-Fi/Ethernet back again. I found that this fixed the connection temporarily with my Ethernet, but I had to redo this every time the connection dropped.

Some people have gotten rid of this by disabling/deleting all VPNs and/or the Private Relay in Settings -> iCloud -> Private Relay to Off.

Also, I found one user who fixed this by running the command sudo rm /var/db/timed/com.apple.timed.plist because the Macs internal clock was off.

It's worth a shot to renew your DHCP lease as well, go into Network Settings, click on your Wi-Fi/Ethernet, go into the TCP/IP section, and click on Renew DHCP Lease, it has worked for some.

Try these out and see if any of them fix it for you, I don't have a perfect solution yet but one of these fixes could do it with your Mac! Hopefully this will be fixed completely in an update soon.

Please, reply to this comment if any of these work for you and what kind of Mac you run. Apple has not as of yet, as far as I know, acknowledged this problem at all even though I have found numerous people in different forums all around the internet talking about this, and it seems to affect Intel and Apple Silicon computers, just not everyone.

Click on Details, and check the settings for Proxies. Are they all turned off? (they should)

Did you try creating a new "location"? Sometimes weird connection issues can be resolved by this.

System Settings->Network, click the button/menu at the bottom. Select Edit Locations... and then click + to add a new location. Confirm the settings and test. Perhaps there was some subtle corruption in the location you are using.

Yes! Finally, my WiFi is working. I have an issue where the upload (anything going from the MBP to the internet) was really slow (0.35 mbps on a 1 Gbps line). Followed the delete service and add and it's gone up to 160+ Mbps. Not full speed but I'll take that.
I wonder why it does this.
I've got a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro and have the same issue on both.

A few thoughts:

1) The speeds of download and upload are usually not the same, so if you have a nominal 1Gbps connection, 160Mbps upload seems pretty good.

2) The speed of upload and download is determined not just by the available connection but also by the devices on each end. For example, if you are downloading a file from a server, and that server is slow, you may not be able to use all the speed your connection provides

3) Even two macs with similar installations share a problem, it is, more often than not, due to some commonality in the software they both have, so it is not strange, or unusual. You install the same on both, and thus may have the same problem on both.

Same issue here after upgrading to 14.3.1. Before the upgrade, my Wi-Fi works very well. After the upgrade, the internet connection is broken sometimes. Disabling the Wi-Fi on my MacBook and re-enabling fixed the connectivity issue temporarily. This means that my internet connection is good but there may be some software problem in the MacBook.

Now, I basically need to disable/re-enable the Wi-Fi every 5 minute. I'm looking at how to rollback that MacOS upgrade.

btw, other devices have no internet connectivity problem at all.

Some people have, in fact, gotten around this by removing VPNs or disabling Private Relay, yet the person you replied to still has this issue on a fresh install of macOS. That confirms that it is not just an issue with user settings.

Maybe, but often people install and then immediately migrate everything, not aware that this negates the possible benefits of a clean install. I don't know if that is the case, of course, but have seen this many times in these forums.

updated my MacBook Air M1 to Sonoma 14.4 2 days ago, and yesterday suddenly it connected perfectly to home wifi but can't connect to internet, tried all available steps: reset DHSCP, change DNS, restart wifi, router, reboot macbook, reinstall macOS, all with no success. My other Laptop, phones, and TV connected to home wifi with no issue. The strange thing is, if I use my mobile phone as hotspot using mobile network it works, also if I use my laptop as hotspot using existing home Wifi I can connect to internet. is there any solution for this?
