Is there a way to delete unused media in an iMovie library? Its really hard to pre-sort your raw footage BEFORE you add it to iMovie, to see which takes you're keeping and which takes your trashing. The problem is once you're done deleting half your clips in iMovie, they stay in the library, taking up tens of extra GB per project. Is there some easy way, possibly in the "My Media" tab, to select all clips that are NOT in your timeline? I'm a bit of a youtuber and I make videos regularly. Each video has its own iMovie library. When I'm done, I delete my raw footage in the Finder but I keep the iMovie library itself. Off to a large drive on my home server. But the drive isn't THAT large. Not so large that I can waste hundreds of GB of it's capacity on clips I fully cut out of my videos.

How can we remove unused clips from Final Cut X? If you take a single media file, i.e. IMG_7687.mov and you drag it to a project timeline, then you cut some of the footage out, each unused section of that original media becomes an 'unused' clip. When I filter by 'unused' I would expect to see all media that I've imported that has not been used yet, but that's not what I see. I see all unused clips of the same media file. All of my deleted footage has become unused clips and I want to eliminate them so I can easily find actual media I haven't used yet.

Control-click on the clip in the project media browser and then click on Delete Media from Event in the drop down menu.

A box will then appear wherein you can delete the selected file from the iMovie Library.

Be aware that deleting a clip from the iMovie library will remove it from all projects that may be referring to it. So be sure that the clip is not being used in more than one project before deleting it.
