This might be a bit late for you now but I noticed that you are already using a fairly old MacOS. We don’t know the MBP model either. I would check why your husband attempted to use OpenCore Legacy Patcher before wiping the system and starting again. OCLP seems to have a pretty good reputation when it comes to extending the life of Macs which are no longer supported by Apple. If the MBP is pretty old and you cannot afford a new one right away OCLP may give you a bit more time. Dortania have a web site for OCLP with heaps of information and a support forum on Discord. This software needs time spent on installation and config, along with some research to check compatibility and known issues/workarounds. As others have said this forum is probably not the best place to ask for help with OCLP.
It was a patch that some user installed to allow them to update to newer OS versions when their device did not meet the minimum requirements to be updated by Apple. Not recommended by Apple.

It is hackingtosh software for unsupported Macs.
We can not support "hackingtosh" in these community support forums.
Evidently my husband installed it (on his Macbook Pro) and now the trackpad doesn't respond and the mouse is frozen - uugghh. I tried to start in safemode but once I started up, I still get no response. The function keys respond as does the tab/return (key with arrow pointing right touching l ). I really don't know what is happening. I do not have an external mouse.
Can anyone help?
Just for clarity, are you saying your husband installed OCLP on HIS MacbookPro but you are getting this message on YOUR Macbook? Or that he installed OCLP on YOUR Macbook? Which machine is actually having the problems?

Time to ask your husband for support.
The only thing we can suggest here is for you to perform a clean install of macOS which first involves erasing the whole physical drive (Intel Macs only) followed by reinstalling the proper version macOS for your Mac & restoring from a backup. Keep in mind that erasing the drive destroys all data on that drive, so make sure you have a good backup. However, you may find some items in the backup may no longer be compatible with the older version of macOS....things which come to mind are Photos & Music libraries, but there may be some other things as well.
You may first need to perform a PRAM Reset (hold the PRAM Reset for at least two or three chimes if possible) since it seems Open Core Legacy Patcher modifies the PRAM. This should allow you to boot into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R to access the online macOS installer, or to access a bootable macOS USB installer if you can create the USB installer.
Good luck.
This all assumes that the laptop has not developed a hardware failure of some sort and the problem is just with the hacked version of macOS or some other software issue.
