How to sync Photos from mac to iphone15 at original resolution

I have about 15,000 photos that I want to move from my old iPhone 6s to my new iPhone 15 using the Photos app running on my Mac.

I synced my old photos to my Mac using a USB cable and then I connected my new iPhone to received the photos via syncing. Everything worked and I have the photos all saved on my new iPhone but the only problem is that the received photos on my new iPhone are all low resolution. I double checked on my old phone and can confirm that the photos copied to the new phone were compressed to about 20% original size.

How can I transfer the photos using USB cable only (and not via iCloud) and still retain the original image resolution ?

I saw that others had asked similar questions before but they were suggested to use iCloud to achieve this. I would like to avoid using any cloud based solution and purely rely on my local USB cable connection if possible.

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

When you sync the photos from your Mac manually using the Finder, the photos will be reduced in quality. And worse, they will not be saved in Photos as regular images, they will just be shown in Photos for viewing. You can neither edit them nor delete them from the iPhone.

It would have been easier to copy the photos over from a backup when you set up the new iPhone. Then you could have saved the albums and transferred the Photos Library as it is.

This cannot be done by a manual syncing. You need a different method of transferring. Without iCloud Photos it will be a lot of work, as you can only transfer small batches of photos at once by Airdrop or Mail. perhaps you could put the photos on a thumbs drive or SD card for importing, but I have never tried it on an iPhone.

You're welcome, RNB55.

The manual syncing has been designed at time, when the iPd Touches and iPhones did not have much storage. So the photos have been synced to these devices scaled down, just large enough to look good on the small displays, optimized for each device individually. The synced photos were just for viewing on the mobile devices.

Now that the mobile deices have become more powerful and are having better displays, particularly the iPads, iCloud Photos has been introduced and is our best option. Before we had iCloud Photos it has been error prone to have only the manual syncing, as it has not been automatic and we had to remember to do it for each of our devices.

i understand that you are reluctant use iCloud, you are not alone, but you might appreciate the added bonus of having an off-site storage of your precious photos. We can recover the photos from iCloud, when our devices get damaged or lost or stolen.
