Pinning Contacts

I have a family member that’s old school and very rarely uses text messages. I had him pinned once, but accidentally deleted the pin. I know I can simply call him and ask him to text me. But I'm just curious if there is a feature that will allow me to pin contacts that are not appearing in my Messages? 🤔

Default Mode to Contact under Favorites in iPhone 11 Telephone App I want to call my daughter from that Favorites list by default. However, under her name in her contact, it says "Messages," and tapping it brings up her messages in the Messaging app. For my wife, it works as I want. Under her name, it says "mobile" and tapping it brings up the phone app calling her. I tried editing her contacts from the phone app and the contacts app, but not finding any way to set the default contact mode. Thanks in advance for any help. gA

Adding Birthday to Contacts iOS 18.2 I added several birthdays to contacts and noticed later that none of them were actually there. I then added one to a contact and noticed that after I had added it, selected “done” and watched the window, after about 15 seconds it just disappeared. Not sure what’s going on but no error messages, nothing, just edits that disappear. BTW this happened on my iPad and iPhone so it’s a feature of the Contacts app or iOS 18.
