M3 Max MacBook Pro constantly freezing

Major issues with 16inch MacBook Pro M3 Max delivered in Dec. 2023. Apple online support after hearing the issues directed me to an Apple Store who recognized that things were not right, and relayed to me another customer who experienced the same problems. The solution was a Firmware Update. That solution solved some things, but not others.

Main issues:

  • Finder sometimes crashing, those much less frequently since the Apple Store firmware update.
  • Logic Pro constantly freezing (beach ball).
  • When selecting "restart" the machine freezes on a black screen and does not restart, requiring forced shutdown via power key.
  • When shutting down the machine occasionally freezes, requiring forced shutdown via power key.
  • Final Cut Pro sometimes freezes when drag-dropping video clips into the timeline.
  • External drives do not connect via thunderbolt (despite compatibility and proper thunderbolt cables), and only show up in system information as "usb 3.1" connections. However, when the machine is manually shut down and turned back on, if the drives are connected when rebooted, they do show up as connected via thunderbolt. Those external drives do not have the same problems on my old 2019 MBP.

You have 14 days to exchange or return for any reason, after that it falls under warranty repair.

Sounds like you still have issue—

I would take it back and have them fix it.

See your recent service report—
