Is there mute feature on FaceTime?

I hate that we don't have a mute button for the person on the call. There is no reason not to. I hate hearing the background noise when it's dead silent. We can't even turn the audio all the way down. It's annoying honestly. I hate when I'm on facetime with someone and then they're talking to someone else in person. All I'm trying to do is listen to something on my phone and I can't hear anything. Sometimes the other person isn't paying attention and doesn't mute themselves. I just want to be able to put them on mute that is all. It genuinely angers me. I know I'm not the only person that feels this way.
