How to transfer non-purchased music from Windows PC to Mac Without duplicating iTunes purchases

Many years ago, when I got my first iPod touch, I copied some of my CDs in to iTunes for Windows, in order to sync them to the iPod. As time went on I progressed to iPads on which I purchased music. I have just purchased a Mac and, during set up, my iPad music content has migrated to my new music folder. Am I able to transfer my non purchased music from my Windows pc to the Mac without copying the purchases held there, to save duplications?

By what method? Are we talking about using an external drive, direct cable connection?

Bayardm,

Any method that you are comfortable with is fine. Personally, I would copy from the PC to a flash drive, then from the flash drive to the Mac, and then toss the flash drive into a drawer for future reference.
