photos Nikon D5000 to iPad

Would like to transfer photos from Nikon D5000 camera to iPad or iPhone. How do I do this ?

I don't have one of those cameras, but judging from the manual stored online, the best approach is probably to remove the SD card from the camera and use a third-party external SD card reader attached to the iPad or iPhone. (The model of reader would depend on what model of iPhone or iPad you have.)


When the camera was new (over a decade ago), Nikon supplied software you could load on a PC or Mac to pull photos directly off the camera through a USB-A port. I don't know whether the camera would work that way with an iPhone or iPad; there does not seem to be a comparable Nikon app in the App Store.
