shortcut to turn off screen in iOS 17

There's a shortcut - Lock Screen to do that but do it unperfect. As the name suggests, it locks the screen. But, when this shortcut runs, it locks the screen but doesn't turn it off, and hence the screen instantly gets unlocked by face-id.

Trying to understand the use case for this new shortcut.

And how hard is that to turn off the screen while lock the screen?

and how weird is the scenario that one just want to lock the sreen while want the sreen light on anyway????

Do you even throw a thought on that awkward design?

The lock screen shortcut is presumably not meant for people still using the phone.

Some potential use cases could be:

  • Leaving somewhere, but you can’t lock it in time
  • Snuggled up in bed, arms warm and you don’t feel like moving your hands out of the warm blanket so you can use the shortcut
  • Working on something and don’t want to stop working to lock your phone

Also, keep in mind that many people set their phone to not lock, or lock after 30min+. Therefore, this is useful as in they can lock it when necessary, instead of leaving it open.

Remember, this is an apple support forum, not a place to complain. I am not the person who can “throw a thought” on the design of this feature
