Unable to send group text in Messages in iPhone

I have an iPhone 13, and up until yesterday (2/21/2024), and continuing through today (2/22/2024), have never had a problem sending text messages with more than one recipient.

Yesterday, I was trying to send a group text to some friends to confirm a meeting place and time for dinner tonight. There were about 7 names on the list, and I tried to send it several times, but I kept getting “message send failure”.

However, when I tried to resend the message one recipient at a time, I was able to do so. Most of the recipients have iPhones, but some don’t. Each person received and responded to the message.

What could be the problem?????

Contact your carrier and have the check to make sure Group Messaging is properly provisioned on your account. If it were me, I'd request they remove it, have you restart the phone and then add it back to your account.

ETA: as some of your recipients are not using iMessage, most of the post above mine is irrelevant.

To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps first

  1. Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
  2. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you have registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you have selected iMessage for use. Learn more about troubleshooting iMessage registration if the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use.
  3. Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. Learn more about troubleshootingcellular data or a Wi-Fi connection if a data connection isn't available.
  4. iMessage over cellular data might not be available while on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn more about which network your phone supports. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while on a call if your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls.
  5. Restart your device.
  6. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
