Unable to re-install deleted applications on my iMac

As I was unable to open Firefox on my iMac I tried to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. I am now getting a message "Preparing to copy to "Applications" that just hangs up and never copies it over. Prior to attempting to reinstall I deleted the application. Now what do I do?
