What happened to "Allow Ethernet Clients" with AirPort Express (A1264)?

The title says it all. That setting is missing. And I can no longer get the wifi network piped out through the Airport Express. It was working for years. Then stopped. I reset the unit and the ethernet setting was missing.

It looks like this:

It used to look like this:

I don't believe the function disappeared only the option to select it with v6 of the AirPort Utility. If you reviewed the (now retired) support article I provided you a link with, you can double-check your steps when you set it up.

In Client Mode, the Express should be performing as a wireless Ethernet Bridge. If you are finding that the Ethernet port is not working, I suggest you try again with those steps. If that fails, it may be possible that the base station itself is defective.

Since Apple got out of the network hardwware business back in early 2018, I don't expect much support from Apple on these. However, there are alternate devices that can perform this function sans AirPlay. The TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router(TL-WR902AC) would be a good example.

The 5.x version (bottom image) of the AirPort Utility pretty much was abandoned with the release of OS X Lion. It was replaced with v6.3.9 (currently the latest) since then. Actually, Apple has not updated it since macOS Mojave, and it is still the default with Sonoma.

Regardless, what are you trying to use this base station for? I would guess that you want to configure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge so that you can connect an Ethernet client to an existing wireless network. Is that correct?

Hi, thank you for the reply. That bottom image, I just grabbed on the internet, looking for an example of the "Allow Ethernet Clients" checkbox (that I can't seem to find). My stuff is always very current. I haven't seen an Apple UI that looks like that since I had hair.

The version of the AirPort Express I am using is: A1264

(is there another number you were looking for?)

In any case:

<<I would guess that you want to configure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge so that you can connect an Ethernet client to an existing wireless network. Is that correct?>>

Yes, that is correct. I have actually been using the Airport Express like that for about 6-7 years now. But our wifi network's password changed. And I couldn't get into the AirPort Express. So I factory reset it. Connected to it. And, suddenly, the ethernet jack wasn't providing me...well, ethernet. :)

So I looked at the settings, thinking the "Allow Ethernet Clients" checkbox had gotten unchecked in the factory reset, and couldn't find any such checkbox. The Airport Express also said it needed a little update. So I ran that, hoping that might help. Still...no checkbox.

If I was a guessing man, I'd say Apple removed that functionality from the Airport Utility. So I was wondering if anyone else was seeing it, and the problem was somewhere else. Or perhaps that functionality is always on now (hence no checkbox) and the problem is coincidentally somewhere else.
