Does the free app you want to download contain a:

• Free Trial
• In-app purchase

When downloading an app with a free trial, you can use the app for free, but if not cancelled 24 hours before the trial ends, you will be charged. If the app has an in-app purchase, you can still download the app for free, but it has additional options for purchases.

Developers have to pay each year to have the app in the store. It also costs the developer time and money to make the apps as well as to continue to update the apps. Developers hope you will like their app enough that you will continue to use them or possibly use one of the provided in-app purchases. Without a payment method there is no chance they will be able to recoup any of their costs. Before those 2 options were available, you would have to pay to download most apps without being able to see if you even liked them.

What message are you receiving when you attempt to download an app?

Do you have a valid payment method?

Does it say your Apple ID is disabled?
