Lost files due to time machine

In error, I allowed Time Machine to use an external drive that was full of folders with images. I there anyway to recover the images. SAN Disk did not fine the images

Data files got corrupted after installing Ventura OS and running Migration Assistant Don't quite know where to start with this one but here goes. I recently decided to format drive on my iMac retina 5k 2020 install a fresh Ventura OS then run Migration Assistant. Unfortunately not only did my data files get corrupted in that I couldn't access them due to permissions errors but they were incomplete in some cases. Some of my restored folders were empty or missing. I have since been trying to get things back to how they were by individually going through my Time Machine backups and manual restoring files, a tedious and as yet an incomplete task. It got me thinking that the restore process wasn't using full backups. Is there a way to ensure Time Machine does full backups rather than incremental ones. Alternatively is it better just to restore OS and applications and use iCloud for data instead? Any advice on best practice would be appreciated. T.I.A. [Re-Titled by Moderator]

TM uses as much space as it needs and will over write any old files that existed before. If you see none then they are gone. I guess you could try a data recovery service.
