My iPad is referencing a different Apple ID for app updates than my own Apple ID. How can I get it to stop referencing the id that isn’t mine. It is asking for the password to the previous owner of this iPad and not mine. I’m signed in with

It sounds like the device was not reset to factory settings. When a user signs out of their Apple ID, all the apps remain on the device. When you sign in with yours, the apps that were there will no longer allow updates without entering the credentials of the person who downloaded them. All you can do is delete the apps that were on there previously.
