How do i not share my address but still save it in maps?

Before the update i had my home school and work address saved in maps. it was really easy. now its telling me to update my contact card to save it there. will others be able to see all those addresses? I use maps a lot so its inconvenient to not have it saved but i have shared my card with so many people already i don't remember who. I don't want them to know where i frequent though. so is it safe to update or is there another way to have the same convenance?
