Headphones used through USB-C port not working.

I have been using a pair of gaming headphones for several months with my MacBook Air. I use an adapter since the gaming headphones terminate with an old USB connector. I plug it into the USB-C port and they have always worked great. When I updated to Sonoma 14.3.1, they stopped working. The internal speakers work normally as always, but the headphones have stopped working. I tried different adapters and different headphones. None work.

If it is a Apple Silicon Mac, Try setting the Allow accessories to connect setting to “always” and see if it asks when you connect. After allowing, do they work? You should then be able to change the setting back.
