How to change Apple TV login ID username

I put the password instead of my login in and can’t erase it

How do I change username of my Apple TV+? On their new (non-Apple) smart TV, my elderly parents have somehow accidentally changed their Apple TV+ username from their email address (associated with their iPhone, etc.) to something else, and now the only thing the Apple TV+ account will let them do (apparently; I’m troubleshooting from a long way away) is enter a password for their nonexistent password. There’s evidently no “Cancel” or “Back” option. Does anyone know how they can resolve this themselves? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

On what device is this happening?

On smart TVs and third party streaming devices, you may reset the app and then start over: Reset the Apple TV app - Apple Support
