Migration from Dropbx to icloud and now my storage on my MacBook Pro is full

I created a Shared folder on iCloud.com and moved all of my Dropbox data to that folder, but I would like it to stay on iCloud unless I need to access a document. How do I accomplish this?

If i use iCloud drive on my mac to upload files to iCloud, they will only remain in iCloud if i keep those files in iCloud drive, therefore unable to free up space on macbook and/or have those files available forever in iCloud in the event of death or lost/stolen computer for family members to access.... put files into icloud without it using up my hard drive space on macbook i am using onedrive and icloud and recently decided i wanted to have most of my files in icloud cause it's easier to access. i noticed when i started transfering files into icloud it was using up my hard drive space. is there a way to have files live in the cloud and have them download when needed so as not to use all my hd space.

How do I store files on both iCloud and Mac storage simultaneously? My MacBook Air just started storing all my files on iCloud and I have to download them in order to use them. How can I get the files stored both on iCloud AND on my computer? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Right click on the folder in iCloud Drive and then on "Remove Download".

You may need to do this for each folder inside that one.

That won’t remove the folder from iCloud, right?

Nope. Just the "downloaded" file from the Mac.
