Unable to open Numbers file on iMac

I'm trying to open a Numbers file on my iMac that I just used last week but continue to get the following message: "Numbers couldn’t read the file. You can try restoring to a previous version." I click on Browse Old Versions and it says there are none available and then "operation not permitted". I am able to open the file on my MacBook Pro without any issues but how can I get this file to open again on my iMac??? The file is saved in iCloud.

Do you have an older version of Numbers on your iMac than on your MBP? (Current version is 13.2). If so, you're likely to continue having problems. Can you update it?

Having a copy up on iCloud Drive is a good thing. You may be able to log into iCloud.com and download it from Numbers for iCloud. Click the three-dot icon and choose Download a Copy.

I don't have an answer to your question but stop now and make a backup copy on your MacBook Pro before the file gets screwed up. Store it on the MacBook Pro hard drive, not iCloud. After that you can try stuff to see if you can open it.

First I would try restarting the iMac to see if the problem goes away. If not, one possible solution is to make a duplicate of the file (or of the backup version) using your MacBook and put it on iCloud and see if your other computer can open that one.

Thank you. Good idea to save back up files in alternate places. I will also try restarting the iMac to see if that resolves the issue. Thanks again!

I'm thinking that may be the problem. I just checked and my Numbers version on my iMac is 11.1. I'll see if I can get it updated. Thank you!
