iPhoto issues from external drive

I was trying to make a backup of my iPhotos last month but didn't realize that I didn't keep the original file when I accidentally moved the file to my Lacie drive. Now I can't get it to be recognized by my original MacBook Pro where it came from.

I am guessing you mean the Photos app. iPhotos was similar, but it was discontinued before the computer that you listed was made.

How is your external drive formatted? To avoid damaging the Photos Library an external drive must be formatted in either APFS format or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Additionally, the drive can not have had Time Machine on it since it was formatted. The newest macOSs won't even open a Library at all if it's not on a properly formatted drive.

Lori, it's a good sign that Photos is working on you iPad. I think we need some more information. How is your Lacie drive formatted? Is the package file "Photos Library.photoslibrary" on that drive? Is the package file "Photos Library.photoslibrary" in the Pictures folder on your Mac? If not, can you copy it back to your Mac? How much storage space is available on your Mac, and how big is the Photos Library? Does your iPad show all your pictures? Do you see all your pictures in Photos at iCloud.com?

What version of macOS are you running? What version of iPadOS are you using? How much storage space is available on your Mac, and how big is the Photos Library?

Anything else that might help?
