Macbook Pro 2019 Stalling, freezing when working with heavy graphics etc.

Hello all,

I am new to this community, however a loyal Mac/Apple user since mid-2000's.

We have a 2019 MacBook pro/16inch/16GB RAM/Intel/Ventura 13.4.1 with the touch bar.

I am a designer and work with heavy graphics files all the time. However lately It has become impossible to work on my machine due to the following reasons:

  1. Whenever I work on design software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. – the machine starts stalling immediately. After every click, it will take a few seconds to react, and in a few minutes, the whole system will shut down. It will show dotted trails on my screen ( screenshot attached).
  2. I can't even browse Apple's site, as there are a lot of moving graphics and animations on the new iMac/Macbook pages.
  3. Watching videos on YouTube/Netflix doesn't stall the computer.
  4. Design software like Canva and Figma that runs in the browser works fine most of the time.

I already have:

  1. Formatted the hard drive and installed a new OS.
  2. reset PRAM, worked in safe mode
  3. Re-installed Adobe products multiple times, but the problem doesn't go away.
  4. If I attach an external monitor, the issue remains the same. Hence I assume that nothing is wrong with the screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This machine is my bread and butter and I want this to work smoothly as soon as possible with as little expense as possible at the moment.

Thank you again.

There is something wrong with the graphics chip.

You can try to run Apple Diagnostic:

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

If it comes with an error that would be useful when calling AppleCare. But it might not. Even though this machine is probably out of warranty, you may be able to ask for an extended warranty plan before taking it in for service:

Official Apple Support

And you might be under an extended service plan for your model:

Apple Service Programs - Apple Support

Regardless, graphics anomalies portraying across multiple displays creating graphics redraw issues are graphics chip issues as the chip controls the video signal through both ports and the LCD.
