"Disk not ejected properly" issue on SATECHI hub for Mac Mini

For those who are experiencing this problem on the Satechi hub for Mac Mini, and you cannot swap the hub with the manufacturer due to an expired warranty, there is a simple solution. The problem is caused by the Mac Mini USB-C port not able to supply adequate power to the hub. I fixed this problem by using a powered USB-C hub. Just search for "TEKERA USB 3.2/USB C Hub" on Amazon. I bought the 7 port one with 5x USB-A and 2x USB-C ports. Hope this helps.

Mac mini, macOS 14.3

I have a Mac Mini with M2 Pro with the Satechi hub + SSD support. I also have several Intel based iMacs and MacBook Pro but I have not experienced this "Disk not ejected properly" issue on them. To me, it seems like a problem with the Apple Silicon Mac Minis.

This sounds like either a weak connection or a power problem.

Check the Satechi hub's USB plug. If it is worn, burnt, dirty or loose in the M2 Mac mini's USB port, then it may not be making a good connection.

If other hubs and devices work fine connecting the M2 Mac mini, then I would not use that Satechi hub with the M2 Mac mini.

If you have problems with other hub's and devices connected to the M2 Mac mini, then you will need to contact Apple Support or your local AASP and have the M2 Mac mini looked at.

Thanks for sharing the solution.

What year model is your Mac mini...?

What all did you have plugged into the buss-powered Satechi Hub...?

It's not just the Satechi buss-powered hubs. Sabrent, Belkin and other USB buss-powered hubs, as all rely on the power out-put of the computers port.

After some testing, I find that our 2018 Intel Mac mini has more USB port poop than our Silicon Mac mini.

For example:

I can run 2 USB buss-powered SDDs on an un-powered USB hub connected to our 2018 Intel Mac mini.

The same 2 USB buss-powered SSDs and un-powered hub plugged into our Silicon Mac mini, does not have enough power.
