Sonoma 14.3.1 update failing, mac crashing and rebooting, system can not boot from recovery

Hello Guys, I have posted here couple of days ago about failed macOS Sonoma update and I got a response to try the update in safe mode, that did not work when i tried. I have tried also to Use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk option , but my mac wont boot to that interface. Now I am running on Sonoma 14.2.1 and able to use the mac for simple tasks like browsing the web, but it crashes and reboot after a short time. I have been unable to install programmes on it as the next thing that happens is sound of fan running, followed by freezing and shut down to reboot. So frustrated and thinking the last option will be to visit the service center, won't come cheap in believe, after spending much on the 2019 2.3 GHz 8 Core intel i9 Macbook pro, 16GB memory, so space isnt the problem.

This I get after system crashed and restarted

This happens after pressing "command + R" to get to disk utility repairs....doesnt go beyond that point

My browser keeps crashing too. I have troubleshooted to delete cache, tem folders etc, refreshed browser to no avail. Only happens on chrome , havent noticed same on safari (barely used that though)

Afetr macOS Sonoma 14.3.1 failed to install, stopped midway

Learnt this is Kernel issue and has to do with 3rd party application on the mac. I have formatted the mac, and removed all 3rd party apps, stioll getting this.

This too, after failed update

Unable to go into system recovery.

Had to type and retype all these before the system crashes again. So please good people, help a mate, i dont have the fund for a new mac now.

Unfortunately I can’t help you but I’m have the same issue. It started soon after updating. It started after the computer would go to sleep after not in use for a bit. I’d come back to use the computer and finger print access didn’t work because the computer had been restarted. This had never happened before unless there was some kind of automated update. But the OS hadn’t been updated so I didn’t know what happened.

This continued to get worse. First I thought it was Parallels, then Chrome, then Google drive. Once it crashes while accessing my 1Tb external SSD backup drive and killed it. Luckily I took it to my Windows 11 machine and, miracle of miracles, Windows fixed it. Finally I disconnected everything and ran no software and it hardly gets past the OPEN screen

So I reinstalled Sonoma and now the computer hardly runs at all. I called Apple Support and I’m in the process of downloading a supposedly ”clean” version from the Apple servers. I don’t hold much hope it will work. Support said the next step is to wipe the whole disk and start all over. As a lot of my work is on Parallels VM. My hope is I won’t have to re-install all the software on the Windows side, just upload the latest back up of the VM. But that sounds too good to be true

I’ll soon find out. Will let you know if I find any joy.

I followed Support suggestions for Intel chips. Shut down computer, disconnect anything attached to it except power. Boot press power button then immediately press and hold Option-Command-R until the recovery options appear(4 options) download from internet — you need internet access. This downloads the latest version then re-installs it. It took about 15 min to download the recovery update and about 45 min to re-install. mds_stores is hardly doing anything. Before it was running between 80-150%. Now it’s moving between 0-0.1%

I turned off iCloud sync on all the apps I never use like iMovie, GarageBand etc. Unfortunately they’ve got a scam going that you MUST sync your Desktop and Documents folder, otherwise, once it starts — which Sonoma is set to start automatically — if you stop syncing, Apple removes the documents from your compiter folder, but not from the cloud. So you have to download the all again or you have to copy the Desktop and Documents folder, save it, turn off sync then copy the files back. They “can’t” do the obvious thing and just stop syncing on the Mac and leave the files in the cloud for your other Apple devices. Obviously they want to squeeze every one for monthly iCloud storage fees

I went into battery settings and turned off sleep for now

This worked nicely for about an hour before freezing. Enough time to free some space backing up my Parallels / Windows

Personally I think it has something to do with the “great” new feature of uploading programs not used much to iCloud and removing them from the hard drive to save space. It even uploaded my Dropbox folders not being used. Also looking at the Activity monitor something called something like mtd_stores (disc indexing?) it was constantly hogging huge chunks of CPU and memory for no apparent reason.

I work for a global company and support North America and Latin America, and there is no fix for this. The Consistent issue is that all Intel macs are crashing constantly. I suspect, that 14.2.1 and up, is simply to force legit users into M series macs. There is a 3rd party App called OpenCore that has a patch to fix this, so a fix is out there, but Apple is not offering it. I can't get OpenCore on the global Company's approved 3rd party list, So i just had to order 40k worth of new Macs to replace all of the remaining Intel macs. I miss Steve Jobs. These proprietary ultimatums would not be happening if he was still around.

I upgraded six weeks back. to I guess 14.3 or so. Computer battery quit charging. I just go out of shop . I got 6 core i9 32GB ram 2TB SD for disk. Yeah, Beyond Compare crashes every 10 seconds so I cannot sync up software etc. I missed this MAC because the parallels would not run ubuntu with docker and hypervisor correctly do do anything useful. The M1 Mac has all types of issues doing anything with virtual machines etc. Not sure what to do at this point. For many minutes it was running really hot and loud. It quieted down and honestly has not crashed as long as I do not run Beyond Compare. I got a movie file that if I rename it will cause same failure. Movie file in the movie folder. Somehow it got duped and renames with a 01_Movie name ... If I so much as click on that file it reboots. etc.
