Need to recycle burned IPad. Should we be concerned about data on it?

The IPad was smoking. Screen bulged and glass is in shards. We will bring it in to recycle but what to do about data stored on it?

Unless you are able to restart your iPad to a running state - and successfully enter the device Passcode - nobody will be able to recover any data from your iPad.

iPadOS uses an encrypted filesystem. Successful entry of your iPad Passcode unlocks the Secure Enclave (this being your iPad's security chip) within which the only copy of the encryption keys - that are required to access and decrypt your data - are stored.

In the unlikely event that someone where to attempt access, only a limited number of attempts to enter the correct Passcode is possible - before the iPad will automatically destroy all encryption keys stored within the Secure Enclave.
