I have old WMV files that I would like to convert for viewing on my MAC.

Any Suggestions?

You can use the free VLC and from its File menu, select Convert/Stream… menu item. Drag and drop the WMV video onto the drop target on the subsequent panel. The default Profile will generate a .m4v video and you should click the Browse… button to pick a location for your saved video conversion. Use a .m4v extension here. Then click Save.

A progress indicator will move across the open media player panel and your .m4v will arrive at your save location. You can then click once on it and press the Spacebar to have Quick Look play your new video.

Just tested the above on Sonoma 14.3.1 with a 5 GB WMV video.

Handbrake can do this too with more output options for video.
