Anyone else been viciously hacked?

It took away my identity. Actually changed my Apple ID photograph and be a fake me( FM) Got in my forever Gmail account and changed my password and the email address. Got my contacts and spammed all my contacts, then Facebook set me up a fake store offering free services “click here” I know it’s just scraping data but I’ve had to change everything and cancel purchases and it’s been a month - my phone and Apple TV are working but tv keeps buffering and the question is- once my combo Cellwifi phone infect my iPad Pro? I don’t have a clue

If your iPhone and your iPad are using the same Apple ID, and the bad guys have your Apple ID credentials (ID and password), then various things that synchronize through iCloud are at risk. Not from "hacking" or "infection" – but from the bad guys being able to log into the iCloud Web interface as you, and do the things that you can.

To prevent that, you should secure your Apple ID. (Hopefully, you've already done this.)

If they have learned credentials for other accounts, like your e-mail accounts or your Facebook account, then you need to secure all of those accounts, too. (Hopefully, you've already done this.)

You can prevent your neighbors from using your Wi-Fi by

  • Configuring your Wi-Fi router (access point) to use WPA2 or WPA3 security – and not to allow "guest" access
  • Using AES encryption (which is more secure than TKIP)
  • Choosing a Wi-Fi password that is not a dictionary word and that your neighbors cannot easily guess

This won't keep their devices from trying to associate with your Wi-Fi network, but when they don't have the right password, and can't successfully complete authentication, the door will essentially be slammed in their face.

If you do this, it will not matter whether you tell the router to hide its SSID (network name) or not.

Thank you. I just got my phone back and I have a new Apple ID a new WiFi password that is hidden. I know for a fact that 3 of the neighbors in my 4-plex have been using my WiFi. They are too stupid to be this sophisticated. I tried to deactivate my facebook account but that option was hidden deep in the app. A search for deactivate was nowhere I could find. The iPad worries me. I haven’t opened it because it uses only WiFi so w no internet connection it was useless. I’m afraid of what will happen when I turn it on.

it has been a nightmare for a month- closing bank account and getting new credit and debit cards. PayPal was used - Facebook is spamming all my contacts. My Gmail is the door - it was my Apple ID and Apple very diligently has changed it. It took quite awhile because it kept defaulting to the old username. Sooo - the iCloud is safe now but when I power up my iPad ( again WiFi only) I’m afraid to see what it will look like.

my iMessage read spamming people in my address book and then took my Gmail account over and changed it to my iCloud address. All my Gmail is gone. It logged me into a lot of things and then my phone number - it was used to log in to other accounts.

The Apple TV and my iPhone went on the new network just yesterday.

i called Apple support to see how to know what to expect when I open my iPad. ( it’s been Off since my phone had cellular service. ) The support person was vague “it’s possible” but nothing else. I didn’t know if I had a way to wipe it clean upon startup - the new router I set up took my old SIM card . I don’t even know what the spam was but they opened a storefront in facebook marketplace and used my name to “click here” for free websites for artists with free setup and free marketing and free everything. Tried to make purchases in PayPal - took money out of my bank account and $900 from a good friend. It was refunded of course but she also had to get a new debit card.

opening the iPad might have the new Apple ID or it won’t… The dates on some were 2001 so filtering by date if was first noticed isn’t possible and basically I’m deleting my own information. New Gmail for email and one for web - new phone number - it will ask for a passcode before it is active and I don’t know if my new settings are there or the old settings.

it’s very much taken my work over - my passwords for that old gmail account and any apps I use to access different accounts. Thanks for your advice.

Thank you so very much - it’s been at least a month when I first saw something “wonky” - then unknown charges - all by accounts that used my Gmail - I have my phone number and it has been spamming contacts in accounts I use that to sign in with.

with the iPad off - a new SIM card - can I turn my iCloud backup off on my phone and at least take a look - I can turn off my WiFi and use my cellular service on my phone. I probably should call Apple support again and get another senior specialist to see how to get the device on ( if possible) - or see if there was activity or spam as well - this new WiFi connection might not recognize it or maybe it does automatically- just a thought

thanks again
