Unable to play Podcast episodes downloaded in Apple Watch

Watch OS 10.3.1 / series 6 / mg2j3ll/a

I listed to podcasts that are downloaded onto my watch.

Recently, I open an episode and it closes. Or I get the episode to open but it doesn't play. I press the play arrow, it turns into a pause button but then reverts right back to the play arrow.

I've seen others post about this problem but no responses.

Podcast App on Apple Watch stops playing after a minute or so. I'm having an issue where I'll start playing a podcast from the watch (without my phone nearby) and it will play for anywhere from like 30 seconds to a minute or two and then stop playing. If I hit that play button it will start playing again for another minute or so, but never more than that. I tried downloading the podcasts to the watch ahead of time to make sure it wasn't a cellular problem. I tried completely restoring the watch thinking maybe there was just some weird software issue happening, but it didn't help. Music from the music app will play fine. I think I also tried Audible and it was fine. Only the podcast app seems to have this issue. This would seem to indicate it's not a global issue of something triggering a pause of playback. I'm not sure what else to try. I've searched online and can't seem to find anyone else with this problem. It seems odd to have so specific an issue that survives a restore that isn't more widespread. I don't want to have to use a third party podcast app, but I'm not sure what else to do at this point. This is on a Series 6 on the latest watchOS. It's worked fine for years up until a few months ago.

Downloaded Podcasts No Longer Playing On Apple Watch Hi, I use my Apple Watch SE to listen to downloaded podcasts on my air pod pros. Haven't ever had an issue playing them until the most recent watch update. Now when I try to play a downloaded podcast: the episode will not play. I select it from the downloaded list, it opens for a fraction of a second (no sound), and then flips back to the list of available episodes. Note: If I play the downloaded podcast in range of my phone (from the downloaded podcasts on my iwatch) it plays no problem. So I'm guessing the issue is from when the phone is out of range...and that's when I need to listen to downloaded podcasts lol. If someone could please help I'd appreciate it. Thank you!
