How do I remove remote management from a courthouse phone?

I bought an iphone from ebay from a high rated seller. My mistake. when trying to set it up it says it is controlled by the goverment in a courthouse from a different state than me. It has the courthouse address and everything. I unfourtunatley missed the return window. I am just wondering what do I do with this phone now? I hope its not stolen. Is it possible I can send it to apple to remove the remote management? Do I discard the whole phone now?

Mac Jim ID is absolutely correct in that Apple cannot help you. Whether you bought a stolen device or not, we can't tell, but it's not unusual to see people come here from eBay, Offer Up, Facebook Marketplace, etc., having purchased a phone they cannot use.

Since you have missed the return window, you can try to contact the Courthouse and hope they are willing to help you, but they may also tell you you are in possession of a stolen device. There's not likely a good outcome here for you. Buying from such sellers is almost always a recipe for disappointment and wasted money.

Worst case, recycle the phone responsibly and NEVER purchase a phone online you can't see in person, which should ALWAYS open to the Hello Page when you power it on.
