How to fix file permission issues when Organizing Drive on MacBook Pro

I am organising files, copying to a drive, moving them within the drive, changing some folder and file names.

It has suddenly required permission to do so on certain files, folders, and will copy instead of move a file or folder when I try to move it.

the sharing permissions for the drive/files have read and write allowed by owner (me) and admin (me), and ignore ownership is checked, but they still require password for changes.

How to fix?

Thanks.

Sorry for posting this again, I could not put in under "Monterey" tag last time, only "previous operating systems", with no replies... hopefully someone wiser than I will see this under Monterey

Just updating what my journey was: many solutions to repairing permissions were explored on another thread (thank you for all folks providing input), but in the end nothing I tried worked with changing all permissions on enclosed items. The drive permissions must simply have been too corrupted. I have gone to a backup drive, and things are fine. The issue with permissions may have been started by a USB hub which kicked off drives when new ones were connected... perhaps that created the corruption. Needless to say, I no longer use that hub, only a tried and true one.

Needless to say, keep backups 😊
