Ok then.

You’ll need at least 2x FIDO2 keys to protect your AppleID. (I suggest setting-up at least four … up to the max of 6)

You’ll go into your MacOS settings for your AppleID and click “Setup Security Keys”

You’ll then be prompted thru the registration process.

IMPORTANT: Use with care. Keys are def NOT an appropriate tool for everyone.

Once you setup security keys, they become the ONLY way to access your AppleID from untrusted devices. (i.e. “Verification Codes will no longer be sent to Trusted Devices or Trusted Numbers)

Let that “soak in” a bit.

If you loose your phone while on a road trip, you’ll need a hardware key to setup a replacement phone.

If you loose access to all of your keys, you’re really in a bind if you don’t have access to a trusted device.

This is NOT meant to be “anti-key” - to the contrary, I use them myself.

But as with any VERY SECURE mechanism, your own recovery plan should be well-conceived and practiced … or you can easily find yourself on the “wrong side” of the “security wall.”
