How to fix for non-Apple USB-C to HDMI adapter dropouts

We have noticed on the m2 mac minis and the m2 mac studios an inconsistant issues with black screens or dropouts on hdmi outputs

the outputs are always connected to a non apple hdmi adapter.

we have tried many different adapters, cable matters being the most used version, these adapters work perfectly on older macs and pcs.

https://www.cablematters.com/pc-833-125-usb-c-to-hdmi-adapter-4k-ready.aspx

Other adapters have also been tried and have the same issues.

The issue presents itself as follows

1) a display will go black after a period if time but keep sync, almost like a HDCP issue but nothing HDCP was playing or anything was being touched on the computer.

The output will not come back until you reconnect the adapter or reboot the machine.

2) both display outputs on dongles will drop sync and come back instantly like a bad cable being stepped on.

if we swap the adapters to an apple 4k hdmi adapter the issue never happens.

we are connecting these output to various different broadcast equipment like blackmagic converters or barco e2 presentation switchers etc etc , it happens on all of them.

In all this the onboard hdmi output never glitches or drops out regardless of what its connected to.

Anyone else found an actual reason for this or is using an apple adapter the only solution?

I believe its has to do with a verification process in the dongle that is disrupting the hdcp but thats just a guess at this point.

Yes, we have tried many premium cables at different lengths and the same problem exists
Multipule usbc-hdmi adapters from cheap to expensive
multiple hdmi cables all certified for 4k60 usage and work on all other computers.
multiple mac m2 mac minis
multiple mac studios m2
They all have the same problems.

OK good, just checking...

The next angle that I would pursue with the new Mac mini's and Mac Studio's, is "Automatic computer sleep"

The latest macOS versions are having various issues with automatic and manual computer sleep.

Some systems crash and force a restart, others drop displays, freeze and/or are unresponsive.

As a test:

Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off" and only allowing the display to turn off.

Then leave the Mac's on with the display off timer set for a long time and shut down the Mac's for long periods of non-use.

As you know, we are now well past the days where the cables are simply wires connected to different terminals on the end. With the previous passive serial/parallel connections, the wires could simply be changed to the different pins on the connector. Now with active cables, they require electronics to manage the data being passed through it. Now not only do we have the quality of the wires used that affect the connection, but also the quality of the electronics used in the cable.

These are not active cables we are using, they all work perfectly on an apple usb-c to HDMI adapter on the same computers.

We have various lengths from 3' to 25' and they all have the same issue.

As for Active cables

Active dongles you might be referring to are required for more outputs on certain models as there are not enough timing crystals in the GPU so they require the external ones for more displays

or you might be referring to long HDMI cables that run over fiber and are powered. we have those also.

or maybe you referring to Display port which is not a video signal and is a data signal and has its own problems.
