No trusted device

borrowed phone, trying to sign into iCloud but “trusted device”

is broken so I can’t get the code

Do you have a trusted phone number? That can be any phone including Androids or landlines. If so you can request a code be sent to it. See: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support


If you don't have access to any trusted devices or trusted phone numbers, see the following from that same support article:

If you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity.
