printing from Macbook Pro to an Epson 8700 - Printer offline

The file I am trying to print is in Microsoft Word for MAC on my MacBook Pro 1 running Sonoma 14.2.1

The printer is an Epson 8700.

I am just back after being 3 months away from this set-up and on returning can't print. It was working perfectly for a long time before I left.

I have updated the printer with new firmware.

I have restarted my router.

When I choose to print I am told the printer is offline.

HOW DO I PUT IT BACK ONLINE?

Many thanks in a advance.

I am assuming it is either an Epson ET-8700 or Epson XP-8700. Those sorts of little details matter with printers. If yours is some other model please write back first.

You did everything except remove the existing printer from Printers & Scanners and adding it again. Try that.

The following "scorched Earth" method deletes all existing printers: Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem - Apple Support. Step 3 describes how to Add any printers again.
